Zuabi, Abdel Rahman
(1933 or 1934- )
   On 3 March 1999, Zuabi became the first Israeli Arab justice of the Supreme Court of Israel; it was a nine-month appointment. Born in Nazareth and a graduate of the law faculty at Tel Aviv University, Zuabi worked in private practice until he was appointed to the Nazareth district court in the 1970s. He first rose to prominence as a member of the Sham-gar Commission of Inquiry that probed the 1994 massacre of Palestinians at the Machpela Cave in Hebron. Salim Jubran was the first Arab to be appointed to a permanent seat on Israel's Supreme Court, in May 2004.
